New publication by Hans de Marie Heungoup: Centrafrique - dialogue de sourds entre le gouvernement et l’opposition politique

On March 30, 2021, Central African President Touadéra was sworn in for a second term after an electoral process that was contested by the opposition, and heavily disrupted by the Coalition of for Change (CPC). The CPC is a new armed coalition that was formed in mid-December by former president François Bozizé. In a context of strong political polarization, and under pressure from Western and African actors, Touadéra has announced a political dialogue. This dialogue brings together the government, the opposition, civil society as well as the few armed groups that are not members of the CPC. This paper examines the possibilities for a dialogue between the opposition and the government and suggests ways in which this exchange could contribute to calm down the political scene and initiate national reconciliation.
