The faculty wants to make international staff and PhD students feel welcome and has therefore set up a buddy programme where incoming international staff and PhD students are paired with local staff.

Any staff member or PhD student can sign up as a buddy to welcome incoming international staff members or PhD-students at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Buddies will do their best to make new staff or PhD students feel welcome and be their first point of contact for practical questions.

Vice versa, an incoming international staff member or PhD student who will be part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences for more than 2 months can sign up to find a local buddy.

• Meet online before arrival;
• A buddy can provide more inside information about housing and other practical issues concerning your stay at Ghent University;
• Meet upon arrival;
• A buddy can provide more inside information about the faculty and departments;
• A buddy can show you around the city and answer any practical questions you may have about living in Ghent (shops, supermarkets, transport, doctor…);
• A buddy can introduce you to the Belgian lifestyle and help you make local friends;
