From tomato to biostimulant, from cucumbers to bionematicides
(21-12-2021) This month the VLAIO-LA project 'Zero-Waste' started. This project aims to develop a zero waste approach for the production of the high-wire fruits tomatoes and cucumbers.
This month the VLAIO-LA project 'Zero-Waste' started. This project aims to develop a zero-waste approach for the production of high-wire fruits tomatoes and cucumbers. "Four groups of UGent will help to investigate (I) how to separate the plastic clips and ropes from the plant biomass, (II) how to extract interesting bioactives from the leaves and stems and demonstrate these extracts for (III) biostimulant or (IV) bionematicide activity", says prof. Danny Geelen. “The four UGent groups are members of the expert centers CropFit and End Of Waste” continues professor Tina Kyndt. “ We all have complementary expertise which makes this collaboration unique and successful for the valorization of organic biomass to biostimulants and bionematicides”
Project members
The Vlaio LA project is coordinated by Inagro in collaboration with the Research Station for Vegetable Production (PSKW), Research Centre Hoogstraten (PCH) and Ghent University.
Advisory Board
An external advisory board gives advice to the researchers. Farmers, companies and policymakers are members of the advisory board. Do you want to become a member of the advisory board as well? Please contact Maaike Perneel.
