Marleen Easton is a sociologist and finished her PhD on ‘The demilitarization of the Belgian Gendarmerie’ in 2000 at the Free University Brussels. Since 2007 she is director of the research group ‘Governing and Policing Security’ (GaPS) that generates research on public management and governance in the policy field of safety and security. Main research lines are (1) the changing nature of security challenges and the actors providing security and control, (2) the blurring boundaries between these actors and their power on a policy and operational level, (3) the implementation of security policies and its implications for the security actors, their partners and citizens. Since 2007 Easton supervised 30 research projects and more than 30 researchers. Furthermore she is member of the board of the Flemish Centre for Policing and Security (www.policingandsecurity.be) and president of the Innovation Center for Security (www.innos-center.be).
